An electromagnetic shockwave ravaged the Earth 189 years ago when a star went supernova. It has taken all of this time for the citizens to recover and prepare, but now the Stellvia Foundation is ready to carry out its plan to prevent the second shockwave, which would wipe out the Earth entirely. Shima is a young pilot who is about to put her skills to the test. She joined Stellvia, so she says, so that she could look at the stars without craning her neck, but when she begins training, her determination is fierce. Things don't look promising however, when she comes in dead last in her piloting class. Will she be left behind to wait and watch as the fate of man kind is determined by a small group of young pilots?
